Ex Club Dj Karl “Tuff Enuf” Brown formally of Tuff Jam, artiste, music producer/remixer and occasional radio presenter with over 20 years experience in the industry. Growing up in Hackney, East London and leaving school at 16 with a few GCSE’s, his subsequent career has been self-taught and driven by an interest in electronics and a love for music.

As a member of pop group and remixing team “Double Trouble” in the 1980’s, he appeared in music videos and on Top Of The Pops many times; he also toured Europe to promote their hit singles.

Karl’s partnership with Matt “Jam” Lamont as Tuff Jam in the 1990’s is widely recognised as being instrumental in creating the music genre “UK Garage” with numerous music releases and remixes including tracks by Usher, Coolio, Tina Moore, Boys II Men and En Vogue just to name just a few, they even had their own record label UVM Records and a peak-time radio show on the infamous Kiss Fm.

Karl’s own solo career, which ran alongside the Tuff Jam project, led to a radio show on Choice Fm, DJ appearances all over the world and awards such as “Best DJ” awarded by Pete Waterman and Eddie Gordon and UKG “Best DJ” voted for by those in the industry. He has been featured in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 World DJ’s and in Select Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People. He has also been asked to demonstrate mixing equipment for Vestax and Pioneer at trade exhibitions. Karl appeared regularly at Ministry Of Sound nightclub during this time, playing his tracks to thousands of clubbers through its renowned sound system. The club was immortalised on one of his record releases “History Of House”, recognising its great influence on the UK clubbing scene.

Having been booked consistently in nightclubs since the 1990’s, June 2002 saw Karl take a step away from that side of the business to focus on recording, running his own record label 2TUF-4U, and nurturing other up-and-coming talent, including DJ and production tutoring. Karl tutors music production skills and songwriting on a One-2-One basis in his own studio with people who are wishing to start a career in the industry and has released some student collaborations on his record label via Groove Skool. Karl has also tutored in DJ skills, both privately and at colleges, from the 1980’s to the present. He has presented a lecture at the Inner City Music Event in Manchester – The ACM in Guilford and judging DJ competitions on several occasions. The DJ courses at the Ministry Of Sound’s DJ Academy.

With popular guest performances on radio shows such as KISS FM & Hyperadio, Karl Brown continues to play an active part in the ORIGINAL UNDERGROUND GARAGE?HOUSE genre, recording, releasing and promoting his new BANDCAMP SHOP & ONE2ONE MUSIC PRODUCTION school called the GROOVE SKOOL Teaching PRODUCTION & DJ SKILLS helping with advice on the Business side of the industry.
